Katrina Burgess' Inspiring Story

Seventeen year old Katrina Burgess was hit by a car going seventy miles per hour, causing injuries/breaks to her pelvis, back, lungs, neck, legs, and ribs. To repair her skeletal structure, surgeons attempted risky procedures that could have had fatal results, or left her paralyzed. They inserted a metal rod from her knee to her left hip. Then they opened her back to insert more rods along her back to support her spine. Also a titanium screw was fastened at the top of her spine to fix her broken neck.
"It felt strange when I woke up after having it, my neck felt weird and I couldn't sit in certain positions," Burgess told the Daily Mail. "But I was so relieved when I could feel my legs.
"Just a day after the last operation I stood up and then took my first steps straight away."
Five months later, she no longer needed painkillers. Then a newspaper article detailing her situation caught the attention of the London based modeling company "BASE Models". They were drawn to her 'fresh face' and they plan to use her in teenage and family orientated campaigns.
Burgess was told she may never walk again, and now she will be a successful model in London. This is such an amazing story!

My Girls

Abigail and Grace are the funniest, craziest, most beautiful, happiest girls I've ever met. I love to be around them because they brighten my life. Today I was walking to their home and Abby was lagging behind-as usual-and she was chanting "I do it, I do it." And I turned around and I looked at her. Then I realized that if I had the amount of perseverance Abby had acquired, I would be a much better human. I watched her stumble with grace-not the child, I'm using the noun-and I wished that I could freeze the picture and examine every little bit of the scene. From the soles of Abby's shoes that every piece of the sidewalk hit, to the speckles of color in her eyes, it was memorable. Then I watched them take a bath and I remembered having to hold them so they didn't slip because they couldn't keep their head above their body. And then we spent time in the living room, and I saw that they really love each other. And I love them. Shout out to my girls! <3
